A Dream

As with so much of the dream world, when we wake, like the last vapors of an extinguished candle, what seems so clear in sleep vanishes. Sometimes we are able to remember a piece and sometimes the whole. For me it was just a piece. It had to do with a whole set of books I was getting for our library. The clerk’s response as she gave them was, “What a joy to discover the Truth!” I don’t remember much else about the dream and that is okay. Just this phrase is enough to contemplate.

In this age of relativism, the idea of truth has somewhat diminished. We have come to believe that we each can determine what is right and therefore the truth. In any given situation that we find ourselves, we are the arbitrator of what is okay to do, say or act on. One question we need to ask ourselves before we act is; “Does this action I am choosing create freedom or more bondage?” At Harbor Shalom we have a class called ‘Birthright of Freedom’. It is an in-depth Bible study centered in the book of Judges. In chapter 2 a downward cycle of choices is described. These choices lead to bondage and very tough times. From chapter 17 to the end of Judges we find a time of chaos. It is bookmarked with this phrase, “In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6 & 21:25) In this age we see the same attitude.

I am so thankful for freedom. That is what truth brings. “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free”! Did you know that is found in the Bible? It says the Spirit (God’s Spirit) will lead us into truth and the truth will set us free. Did you also know that Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me”. When we are lead into Jesus, the Truth, we are set free. What joy to know the Truth!!
